PVR plans huge expansion

Within two years at the most, entertainment magnate PVR will have at least 500 more screens all over the nation, according to an official who spoke today for the company at Kerala at the inauguration of one of their theaters.

In 18-24 months, they will invest over Rs 1000-2000 Cr to develop large scale theaters in malls. Of the total 500 screens, 360 screens at 86 cinemas in 38 cities have already been launched. Another 140 would be launched with Rs 280 crore investment, he said.

In a step towards expansion, PVR in Kerala has launched a theater at Lulu Mall with nine screens. This mall is the biggest in the state today. Kerala will have at least 50 of the forthcoming screens majorly in cities like Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, he said.

When asked about production of movies, they said they had no such immediate plans for Hindi or regional languages but it said that PVR Pictures was actively the distributor of Indian and International films all over the nation while supporting individuals who are interested in film making by releasing their films under the banner'PVR Director's Rare'.

If PVR go by their motto, India cinema can proudly boast of better cinema screens than ever.
