Cash-strapped before, jet-strapped now

Vijay Mallya should be facing the toughest times of his life as his dreams came crashing down with one problem following closely behind one another are being forced into his days. This Monday, banks decided to withhold all financial support to the cash-strapped airways and also declared that they would seek legal option to reclaim their loans.

The fleet have also been reducing in numbers as lessors had the same intention as the bankers starting in November 2011. At that time, there were over 64 planes KFA had under its name. The numbers steeply fell to 38 after the lessors have reclaimed their aircraft.

The other 38 aircraft lessors are not generous to let KFA have them a little longer but just that they are not in any condition to take flight, or not-airworthy in technical terms. KFA has cannibalized these aircraft during the time they have been leased.

The DGCA has also deregistered 11 of the aircraft in 2011 since the aircraft was debt laden. It said "Lessors are waiting for the remaining planes to get back into serviceable shape before taking them back. If they had the choice, they would have already done it".

The chances for KFA being back in business are extremely slim to none. No cash, no aircraft, and employees on strike. How worse can it be for Vijay Mallya?
