Al-Qaeda threat to IT companies

Terrorists targetting a particular place where large crowds gather was a thing of the past. In recent days targetting elite areas where the elite wander has been the latest trends as per the Mumbai blasts precedents. In  a recent report given by prominent media source, Hyderabad IT industry is targeted by the Osama bin Laden's brain child Al-Qaeda. Terrorism has turned ruthless these days and they cross boundaries for vague objectives.

As per a report from the Union Home Ministry Home Affairs (MHA) noted MNC's housed in the hi-tech area of the Andhra Pradesh are the latest targets of this group. Government has tightened security around the vantage points and has also instructed the companies to take neccessary precautions and act in co-ordination with the security forces. The main target of the intruders was Google, Microsoft and Hewlette Packard. In fact, the sources said the chief secretary, Pankaj Dwivedi ordered the police in the state to immediately review the security situation in Hi Tec City.

Why Hyderabad: Hyderabad had been sourced by the IT sectors as the best place to embark on a setup. The situation was aided by the then government which offered various sops and made the environment investor friendly. And in particular, kudos must be given to the Nara Chandrababu Naidu's government which ruled the state then. Chief Minister Naidu ruled the state for  8 years 8 months 13 days (1995–2004). And it was during this time IT thrived in the state. Mr Naidu started the slogan "Bye-Bye Banglore, Hello Hyderabad." All these and more had lead to immense development of the state IT sector and later was well nourished by the following Congress governments too.

Now the latest threat from Al-Qaeda is sure to shake the economic zone of the nation. Because a strike here would keep multi-nationals at bay, say econmists. And thwarting the attack by all means seem to be the primary goal of the nation.

Al-Qaeda after Osama's death: Though the most wanted terrorist, on the run, Osama and his top officers where killed by the US army, the Al-Qaeda seems to garner support from its allies.  It may be noted that the Obama Administration has committed to withdrawing U.S. combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2014. However that does not mean the U.S. can simply turn away from the country and hope for the best. If the Taliban is able to regain influence in Afghanistan without breaking ties to international terrorism, it would provide an opportunity for al-Qaeda and other extremist groups to revive and regroup in the region.
