Production-Spec 2017 Skoda Rapid Spotted Testing

The 2017 Skoda Rapid will get some interesting updates and upgrades, as it awaits its launch in the coming months. Although spied plenty of times, now the production-spec model has been spied testing, which looked fully undisguised.

The upcoming Skoda Rapid facelift will be a cosmetic as well as mechanical upgrade with major improvements in styling, co-opted from its larger sibling, the Octavia. Even the front-grille resembles the Octavia and is seen to be broader than the current model.

Headlamps with LED DRLs and LED tail lights also seem to be in place in the new Skoda Rapid. The Czech carmaker has also made most of the changes to the front and has left the rear with little changes.

The interiors are likely to get quite a few changes with a MirrorLink touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth Connectivity and navigation. Rear parking camera can also be expected, though all the above equipment will be added to the top of the line variants only. Safety tech will include dual airbags and ABS, which will come standard across all variants. The interiors colors, however, will be retained with the same beige and black colours.

On the mechanical front, Skoda will introduce the EA189 series mill that does duty in the Volkswagen brands with some updates, as seen on the Ameo. So, the new Skoda Rapid will be powered by the 1.5-litre TDI diesel motor that will develop 108 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque.

The engine before the update made 103 bhp, while the torque figure was the same. Power will be transferred to the wheels via a 5-speed manual and 7-speed DSG as options. Skoda will also retain the 1.6-litre petrol motor as well. Expect the 2017 facelift Skoda Rapid to launch just a little after Diwali.
