Ex-servicemen as drivers in Uber!

Uber signed an agreement with the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO),  under the Ministry of Defence (MoD), to create opportunities for the ex-servicemen, on its platform.

AWPO supports the ex-service men, in providing jobs in the private sector and also other entrepreneurship opportunities. Regarding this, AWPO will refer the ex-servicemen, who are willing to join in Uber, as drivers.

AWPO will do it, as a part of the partnership with Uber. With this referrals, it is expected to benefit over one lakh ex-servicemen and women, on the Uber platform.

Speaking on the issue, AWPO MD Major General Deepak Sapra said, “At AWPO, we believe everyone who has served our country deserves the dignity to be able to support themselves when they return to the civilian workforce. That's why we're proud to be working with Uber to extend flexible, well paid work to thousands of our ex-service members.”

In the last year September, Uber revealed its military campaign, in the US. Through that campaign, it served many people, veterans and military spouses. It said that, they would support another 50000 members in the next 18 months.

Responding to the issue, Uber India President Amit Jain said “At Uber, we understand that members of our armed forces are some of the nation's most talented, committed and skilled people. It is our honour to extend our hand and provide access to opportunities for entrepreneurship and empowerment.”

Not only Uber, even Ola came forward to support the ex-servicemen. It started Ola Sainik in the recent August and said that, it would enroll 10000 ex-servicemen, in the next five years.

In India, Uber's rival Ola had launched a programme - Ola Sainik -- in August this year and said it plans to enroll 10,000 ex-servicemen by 2020. On the other side, even Amazon supports the ex-servicemen in its style.
