Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Transport minister Madan Mitra has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] in connection with multi crore Saradha chit fund scam. Initially Madhan Mitra was asked by CBI to come before it for probe and after questioning him, CBI took the minister to its custody.

Madan Mitra was charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating and taking undue benefits from Saradha group. However, this is a major embarrassment to the ruling party in West Bengal as Mitra is the third minister to be arrested in this case.
