President' Rule in Maharashtra

As the Democratic Front government in Maharashtra split, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan resigned to  the post and offered his resignation letter to Governor Vidyasagar Rao. On Firday evening, CM Chavan met Governor at Raj Bhavan and apprised the political situation. Nationalist Congress Party [NCP] pulled of the government as they decided to contest the Maharashtra Assembly elections on its own.

Governor Rao is believed to have sought legal advice regarding president's rule in the state. For, it would be governor Vidyasagar Rao who would be at the helm of affairs in the state. NCP hopes that Chavan would not influence the government machinery during the elections.
