Cow Vigilantes Thrash Five For Allegedly Carrying Beef In Haryana:- The cow vigilantes in Faridabad have thrashed around five peoplein Faridabad, a few kilometres from the national capital of Delhi, on suspicion of carrying beef. This is yet another incident of cow vigilantism reported.

Under the cow smuggling act, a case has been registered by the Faridabad police against the victims. "We will get meat tested," the district police chief said. A case would be registered on the complaint of the victims too, said a senior police officer of the district.

On Friday, an auto-rickshaw driver and four persons were surrounded and beaten up by a mob, suspecting them of carrying beef. The driver was also told to chant 'Bharat mata ki jai' and 'Jai Hanuman'. He was brutally thrashed, when the driver refused.

The incident comes days after a compliance report was asked by the Supreme Court, from states on the cow vigilantism matter. The violence in the name of cow vigilantism was slammed by the RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat in his Dusshera address. He said, "It is reprehensible that some people have been killed allegedly by gaurakshaks."

Rearing of cow is not a matter of religion, said Bhagwat. He said, "I know many Muslims are involved in rearing and protection of cows." He added, "We must look at the issue of cow protection beyond religion. Many Muslims have sacrificed their lives in gauraksha - protection of the cow just as people of Bajrang Dal have."

“A laboratory test has since established that the seized meat was of buffalo and not cow or its progeny. After the report, 15-20 unknown persons were booked under the IPC,” a senior police officer told sources.
