Two Cyber Crooks Held For Duping A Woman On Pretext Of Marriage:- Two Cyber crooks including a Nigerian from New Delhi were nabbed by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police for cheating a woman from Hyderabad on the pretext of marriage on a matrimonial website.

The arrested persons were identified as Hari Singh Khatter and Pius, a native of Nigeria were arrested from New Delhi and were brought to Hyderabad on Tuesday and produced before the court on transit remand.

According to the Cyber Crime police, Pius who currently resides in Delhi created a profile in matrimonial website Jeevansathi.com on a fake name as Deepak Patel and sent a request to the woman in Hyderabad. He befriended the woman claiming to be an NRI who works as a civil engineer. Both exchanged views over phone and WhatsApp and subsequently decided to get married.

“Pius introduced him as Deepak, an NRI from USA working as a civil engineer there. He informed the victim he will come down to India to meet her in April. Later he called her and said he was caught at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi and needed to pay Rs.45,000 to get his luggage released,” a Cyber Crime official said.

Police said Pius asked her to deposit the amount in the account of an agent which she did. The suspect also made women call the victim claiming to be officials from the Customs Department. A total of Rs 2.3 lakh was deposited into various accounts by the victim on Pius’s request which he promised he would return after reaching Hyderabad.

“As his demands kept increasing, the victim suspected the motive and lodged a complaint. Based on the call data record, mobile phone tower location and other clues, the duo was arrested on Monday. They were brought to Hyderabad on Tuesday and produced before the court on transit remand,” the official said.

Police said, Hari Singh, who is Pius’s close friend, ran a mobile shop and was found in possession of the handset which the latter used to call the victim.
