MMRC Issues New Dress Code Diktat For Its Employees

A new dress code diktat to its employees has been issued by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC).

According to the new circular: There should be “No visible tattoos, no body piercing except for earrings, no wearing T-shirts without collar, no tank tops, no jeans and denim, no ripped clothes and no sweatshirts at work.” The MMRC feels that their work force is not paying attention to their dress code. It also stated in the circular, that “It has been observed that there is a lack of attention among employees in following the dress code defined in the MMRC HR policy. As an employee of the corporation, it is expected that the employee’s dress code convey a professional image at all times. Therefore, the do’s and do not’s of the dress code as per the HR policy on uniforms are reiterated.

MMRC HR Policy

The MMRC is known for implementing new age technology through use of social media and new age communication tools. An MMRC spokeswoman, confirmed about the dress code circular. “The circular on dress code was as per the HR policy of MMRC. It is an internal circular,” she said. However, an MMRC official said, “MMRC has appointed many youngsters in its engineering and accounts section. It was observed that at times, these youngsters did not follow the prescribed dress code. Hence, this was just a reminder for these professionals who are working on both permanent or contract basis.”

Further, in the list of do’s it said, the men employees are expected to wear formal shirt, trouser, socks and formal shoes, women employees are expected to wear professional formal pants, tops, shirts, jackets, formal skirts (knee length or more).

MMRC is the executing agency of the crucial north-south link via construction of the 33.5-km-long Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 underground corridor for which the civil works are ongoing.
