Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu Condemns TRS Government Over Muslim Reservation

Union Minister, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, has condemned the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government over the issue of increase of reservations to Muslims in the State.

A few days earlier, the Minister stated that, the Telangana State would become another Pakistan, with such a move. “The nation’s unity and integrity will be in danger,” he said in Bhopal. He further stressed that, “Reservation on the basis of religion is not in the interest of the country. It is unconstitutional.”

Recently, the TS, had passed a legislature on increasing reservations for STs and backward sections among the Muslim community in jobs and education.

Mr Naidu said, “The framers of the Constitution were against the reservation on the basis of religion. That is why they did not go for it. The Constituent Assembly too was against it. The BJP’s stand is clear. The party does not believe in giving religion-based reservation and is against it.”

As per the Bill, passed earlier on Sunday, there would be a substantial increase in the reservation for backward Muslims, and STs, taking the total quotas in Government jobs and educational institutions, much beyond the 50% limit set by the Supreme Court. Except the BJP, all the parties supported the Bill. The BJP MLAs, however, were suspended form the House, after they protested against communal reservations.
