Power Station Building Collapse in China, 40 Killed

In a shocking incident, at least 40 people died when part of a power station which was under construction in China collapsed on Thursday.

"A cooling tower platform plunged to the ground in the early hours, trapping an unknown number of people beneath it", Xinhua said. Rescue efforts are under way.

The pictures showed scene in Fengcheng, which is in the central province of Jiangxi. It showed a grey piece of concrete slabs and steel girders thrust in a pile on the ground.

Industrial accidents have become very common in China. In August also a pipeline explosion took place at a coal-fired power plant in the neighbouring province of Hubei which killed 21.

China has promised to improve all the safety measures facilities. President Xi Jinping has said “authorities would learn the lessons paid for with blood after chemical blasts in the port city of Tianjin last year killed more than 170 people.”
