In view of water levels in Hussainsagar touching danger mark from early hours of Wednesday, the Hyderabad district authorities evacuated people living in areas abutting the lake and issued possible flood alert. They said “areas like Domalguda, Ashok Nagar, Himayathnagar and a few slums in Musheerabad mandal may get affected in case of more rains.”

"Sensing the danger, we have evacuated nearly 500 families from two major slum areas - Arundhati Nagar and Sabarmathi Nagar - which are severely affected due to floods. These two areas are located near an open nala (behind NTR Stadium, Indira Park).

“We have kept all the evacuated families in a community hall and are providing them meals," Musheerabad mandal tehsildar,” S Ramulu said.

Revenue officials have also told “over 200 families in Ratna Nagar slum in Himayathnagar mandal to get ready for evacuation. Over 400 families were evacuated from Brahmanwadi in Begumpet. In Ameerpet, a wall partially collapsed at Vivekananda Nagar, but no one was hurt. In M S Maktha, water entered into few low-lying areas, but later receded.”

“A house was partially damaged at Shivaji Nagar in Bandlaguda mandal but family members escaped, said Anil Kumar, MRO. Three major water bodies Gurram Cheruvu, Suram Cheruvu and Palle Cheruvu are full.. In Secunderabad Cantonment, water entered low-lying areas such as Bapuji Nagar, Ramireddy Nagar, Soujanya Colony and other areas like Sail Colony and China Thokatta due to overflowing Ramannakunta Lake. Till now, around 15 complaints related to inundation were received by SCB's round-the-clock call centre. Officials are instructed to closely monitor the situation. Heavy traffic jams occurred at several areas in the city.”
