In yet another animal abuse, a video showing animal abuse has gone viral on Facebook. In the video, a youth can be seen cruelly spinning a dog holding the animal by its hind legs as the dog wails in fear and pain. He then throws the dog against the wall.

The dog runs for his life and the youth can be seen laughing with his neighborhood friends. The video has reportedly been shot in Chandigarh. According to a report, an animal welfare group has lodged a police compliant about the incident.

Police have filed a case and are trying to find out the identity of the culprits.

There have been many cases where animals are killed just for the sake of fun. A few months back there was a similar case filled where a medical student from Chennai threw a dog from a terrace while his friend recorded the crime. The culprits were granted bail initially but latter arrested and fined of Rs. 2 Lakhs.

Though killing or torturing humans is considered to be a crime, many pay mute witnesses to incidents of animal cruelty happening around us.  There are laws like The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

With the shocking rise in the number of cases of animal cruelty and crimes against animals, efforts are on to bring amendments to the archaic animal protection laws. Activists have been petitioning the Prime Minister to enhance penalties and imposing stricter punishment.

Many celebrities, animal welfare activists, concerned organizations and even politicians have signed a petition and called for reforming the existing provisions in the animal cruelty laws. Under the existing Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, penalties are as low as `10 and a maximum fine of `50 for convicted first offenders who abuse or even kill an animal.
