267 Minors Held by Hyderabad Traffic Police

In a special Drive conducted by the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police, around 267 minors and 153 drunk drivers were arrested in the city against violators of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police arrested the minors on Wednesday for driving without the licence. They have counselled them along with their parents and guardians.

Hyderabad Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Jitender during a meeting on Thursday said, “A special drive was conducted on Wednesday in the city against minors driving without a valid driving licence. As many as 267 cases have been booked and this is the highest number in recent times. We have counselled the minors and their parents. The top cop stressed on the need of creating awareness on road safety among the teenagers. The counselling sessions for the respondents would continue for the next two days.”

He added “Every year thousands of such cases are booked. In 2016, over 2,000 road accidents took place and about 350 persons lost their lives. Most of the deceased were aged below 25 years. Apart from that, 2,900 persons were imprisoned this year for drunken driving. Negligent driving is resulting in the accident.”

The Additional Commissioner further said that “special drives would continue in future to ensure the safety of citizens and to bring down the number of road accidents.”

“Every commuter should be responsible while driving vehicle and the pedestrians also need to be responsible and follow the rules. We will bookcases on the vehicle owners if they allow underage children to drive,” he said.
