Bhagvad Gita to be part of school curriculum

BJP government in Haryana asked the state School Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to suggest shlokas from the Bhagvad Gita which are to be ingested into their curriculum. An expert team has started preparing a framework to disseminate the teachings enshrined in the Bhagvad Gita, in schools and institutions of higher learning. SCERT was approached after the Education Department analysed the issue and its recommendations will be referred to an educational consultative committee.

"We have referred the matter to the SCERT for their perusal. It is upto them to propose from which level Bhagvad Gita can be introduced at school level," TC Gupta, director general, higher education said. The Consultative committee is headed by retired school teacher and right-wing education activist Dina Nath Batra. The shlokas are likely to be translated in Hindi and English. The final decision will be taken by the Batra-led committee, which was formed by Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma recently.

The message of Srimad Bhagavad Gita is considered to be for the well-being of the human-kind. The Haryana government has taken the right step to introduce Srimad Bhagavad Gita in the school curriculum. This will help the students to understand the culture of the country along with the message of ‘Tat Tvam Asi’
