Facebook mistake worth $3 billion

Facebook the leading social networking site in the world. Since today morning Facebook is making tumultuous all over as it bought mobile messenger service WhatsApp for $19 billion. And you may think whats wrong in this deal. Here is the story.

In the year 2009 Brian Acton named, a software engineer was jobless. Initially he approached Twitter in the month of May the same year for a job but they said NO. Later in the month of August he attended interview in Facebook even they replied the same. Acton has quite bit of experience in campanies like Yahoo and Apple. He looked for change and contacted the two internet giants. As Facebook and Twitter denied job to him, Acton went back to home and thought of coming up with something unique for the mobile messaging service.

Acton was accompanied by his friend Jan Koum from Yahoo to develop a software application for mobile users to chat for unlimited time and that too absolutely free. In the year 2009 Acton with group of friends introduced an messenger application and named it as “What's Up” [generally the way we start conversation with our friends]. Later on the application was renamed as WhatsApp and now this application is being used by 450 million users around the globe.

Facebook on Wednesday has agreed to buy the WhatsApp for a stunning $16 billion in stock and cash, along with as much as $3 billion in restricted stock units for the founders which means Brian Acton will get $ 3 billion for his efforts. Well this is merely called Fate and a big mistake by Facebook which also burnt their pockets by $ 3 billions.
