1800 unclaimed Muslim bodies in Gandhi

More than 1800 unclaimed dead bodies that belong to Muslim community are lying at Gandhi Hospital for as long as 10 years.  As the bodies are decomposing and are in need of religious rites to be completed the Urdu daily Siyasat came forward to do the job.

If it is not done in a religious way, as the editor of Siyasat Amir Ali Khan is afraid of, the decomposed bodies will be buried in a single grave or cremated en masse that is not in accordance with the principles of Islam. The cost for burying, the editor says, is Rs.2500/- per body and they are doing the religious rites as the funds are received.  It includes the cost of transportation, cloth for covering the body and digging the grave.

The editor of Siyasat said that the work was started in a small way with their own resources but later on went for the contributions (Millat fund).  The bodies at Gandhi and Osmania Hospitals were buried in the religious way at various burial grounds in the city.  The Siyasat received help from the philanthropists in many ways.  Some extended financial help and some donated land to bury the bodies.
