Hyderabad-the 2nd capital of India? February 12, 2013 10:49

Even as pro-Telangana leaders and activists stressing that they don't want anything less than Telangana state with Hyderabad as the capital, demands have been high among different associations. While some  argue that Hyderabad should be made common capital of Andhra and Telangana, there's also a demand to make it a second capital of the country on the recommendations of architect of Indian Constitution, B R Amdekar. Hyderabad Bachao-Badhao Andolana, an association, which was started in 2010, is one such organization, which strongly advocates that southern states felt that there were cornered since there's no capital  down the south. Making Hyderabad a second capital would not only develop Hyderabad and surrounding areas but would benefit the entire south India, said the organization members. Elucidating the other benefits, the association members said that even Supreme Court bench could be set up in Hyderabad, if it's made second capital of the country, wherein people needn't go to Delhi for filing cases in the apex court.  Anyway, the association is all set up to hold protests across the country demanding more states besides appealing for Hyderabad as the second capital of India. While Congress has been dilly-dallying on Telangana issue-which has been there over four decades-the analysts said that it might not pay attention to the demands that popped up a few years ago. Planning a shop in Hyderabad, police license is must February 11, 2013 13:25

Petty traders in the state capital woke up to a rude shock with notices served to them by the Police department. As per a GO (No.129), which was issued by the home ministry in 2005, all establishments must have an approval from the sleuths for running their business. Suddenly the awoken police have issued nearly 10,000 notices in the central zone alone. Other stations are following the suit, say sources. And mind you it is not all that simple to obtain a police permit. The list of requirements include, NOC from the fire services department, a valid trade license from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), an NOC from the chief medical officer of health, GHMC, valid food license issued by GHMC, sanctioned plan of the building issued by the town planning wing, ownership documents like title deed, rental deed and parking lease, valid excise license, if applicable, and parking declaration on Rs 10 non judicial stamp paper. Subject to all this submission then wait for getting the green signal from the cops to start the business, no matter how small it is. Well the reason for this sudden awakening is yet to be ascertained, but it is sure to create chaos in the small traders segment. From petty curry points to mighty textiles showrooms, a common rule will create big hurdle to the growth of the small trader segment, feel observers. (Wishesh AarKay)

Kiss me for good marks! Ugly side of a correspondent February 06, 2013 17:42

Teacher-this word has a special respect in Indian tradition. A teacher is someone who occupies the place next to God. But certain teachers are just bringing bad name to the word teacher by indulging in heinous things. In an astonishing incident, a correspondent of a school in Hyderabad allegedly kissed a standard tenth girl at his office two days ago. This news spread like fire when the girl complained of the this to her parents initially following which a police complaint was also registered against her. The moment this complaint was out, the other girls who were allegedly faced the same treatment from him came out and said correspondent molested them. Aged 45 years, Sharath Chandra of Shanitniketan School in Jeedimetla was arrested by the police. The school principal, who was wife of the accused, was not available for comment. According to the principal, the accused asked the girl to come to his office promising that he would be helping her get good marks in the final examinations. He then kiss ed her. Also, he threatened the girl not to complaint against him to her parents. A large number of parents today too approached the school and vented out their anger by damaging the furniture. It is the duty of every parent to establish a friendly relationship with his/her daughter so that the girl can tell to her parents in case of such incident. Further, every girl must be told by her parents not to care about marks. Talent cannot be stopped by force just like how sunlight cannot be stopped by a palm. If a teacher threatens he would not give marks if she doesn't oblige his fantasies, she should be encouraged by the parents to show the middle finger and walk out of the school. (AW Phani)

Admissions surge downwards in the historical university! January 27, 2013 13:03

The ongoing Telangana agitation has taken a drastic toll on the admissions to the prestigious Osmania University in Hyderabad. The century old university founded in 1908, saw a sharp decline in admissions. Once the most sought after knowledge hub had been castigated by the aspiring students due to the participation of the various student organizations in T protests on campus. As per records there is a sharp drop of about 12 percent in new admissions ringing alarm bells to the university staff. The University which housed various innovate courses and also has many affiliate colleges seems to be losing its sheen due to the avid participation of students and the frequent encounters with police. Elite public feel that the University which was a prestige of the state and held as a mirror to the Nawabi culture that prevailed in these parts, is now dreaded by aspirants. The alarming fact is that even recruiters seem to detest the campus owing to the lack of quality due to persistent holidays. Most political leaders have been reckoning the student forces to succeed in hogging the lime light is the main reason for this show down, claim officials. At this rate the University might as well run into huge loses over a period of time. Many feel that a corrective step to resurrect the lost sheen is immediately required in order to keep up the tradition of Osmania University. (Wishesh AarKay)

Disgrace of lobbying keeps AP away from Delhi January 26, 2013 09:10

The podium erected for the guests of honour to view the 64th Republic day parade was set ablaze by the miscreants in the predawn hours of the day. The dais constructed on the Ibrahimpatinam-Manchala road in Ranga Reddy District was  ruined by some unidentified mob. They also set a car parked on the road while escaping under the cover of darkness. Police rushed to the spot and are investigating the issue. Meanwhile the main venue of the state where the Governor E S L Narasimhan would take the honours is being aesthetically decorated with the view of the occasion. The Secunderabad Parade grounds will the venue where the national flag would hoisted in the presence of an elite gathering. Security has been beefed up around the parade grounds. The tableau of  various departments that speak about the respective developments in the last one year have been neatly decorated and wait at the venue. However Andhra Pradesh tableau of an  offbeat theme on palaces and rocks of Hyderabad was squarely rejected at the national capital. The irony was that the decision was taken up at the forth or the final stage of selection. The committee under the Union defense ministry rejected AP's proposals. Hence the state would not be represented for the fourth consecutive time in the national parade, a disgrace of lobbying. (Wishesh AarKay)

Let us not ruin the iconic Hussainsagar! January 21, 2013 14:40

After a string of swank eateries and an amusement park, it is a modern multiplex that has come to haunt the dying' Hussainsagar. In fact, a petition seeking clearance for the project, which could further shrink the iconic water body, has been submitted to the Supreme Court by a group of businessmen from the city, proposing to "construct a commercial complex/multiplex" on an area measuring 3 acres 39 guntas. Interestingly a portion of this land is "abutting the peripheries of the lake" . The Apex Court, that is yet to pronounce its verdict on the appeal, had in April 2005 issued an interim order stalling all construction activity in and around the Hussainsagar without the consent of the court. The move was aimed at saving Hyderabad's most important water body from further encroachments. In fact, the petitioners Om Prakash Modi, Ajay Modi and B Sampath Kumar have now approached the Supreme Court taking shelter under the ambiguity of the 2005 order, that does not clarify the word "around" and the extent of the area surrounding the lake that needs to be kept free of any construction. While the applicants, in their submission before the court, have predictably claimed that construction on this land (spread across Survey Nos 207/1 and 207/2) is unlikely to cause any "adverse environmental impact" to the water body, environmentalists vehemently disagree. They maintain that the area in question is "well within the water spread" of the lake and could spell doom for Hussainsagar that is already reeling under the burden of illegal constructions. Their concern is also rooted in the fact that a part of this land is still entangled in a legal battle with the state government. "Considering the existing 'load' of construction on the Hussainsagar , it is quite shocking to see another appeal being made to develop a multiplex there. We must realize the importance of having a water body in the urban ambience and look for its survival and for its death! (AW:Samrat Biswas)

Competition runs high at ticket counters! January 18, 2013 12:15

Competition seems to be running high in the festive season between Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalli Chettu and Naayak. The state had given a grand welcome to both these films which is surprising in the Tollywood's history. The former is a multi starer with 'Victory' Venaktesh and 'Prince Mahesh Babu, it is a tale of sentiments and human values. On the other hand, the second is an action entertainer with 'Mega Power Star' Ram Charn in the lead. The film has a right bled of all the ingredients to make a successful masala flick. Naayak released on 1200 screens, globally collected Rs 9 crores, on the first day  and in the first week grossed Rs 32 crores. However Charan's fans re sure to feel bad that it could not cross Pawan Kalyan's  Gabbar Singh’s record of Rs 36 crores in the first week. SVSC released globally on a lesser number of screens raked in Rs 28 crores in the first six days, instilling confidence among the producers that multistarers are sure to click in the present scenario. These records are all unofficial but the craze for the two seems to be still on. The irony is that SVSC got mixed response in the beginning, but is going steady with steep increase on a day-to-day basis. Naayak has Kajal Agarwal and Amala Paul paired with Charan. The story revolves around a software techie, Cherry, once Siddharth Naik with a violent past. How he overcomes his foes is the best part of the film. Music by  Thaman was hard enough to retain fans in seats. However violence was a bit overdose in this film which is estimated to establish new records at the ticket counter. Filmmaker V V Vinayak has woven the storyline which had all ingredients fit for a masala lunch. On the other hand, SVSC produced  by 'Dil' Raju, has fresh face Anjali and Tollywood's lucky mascot Samantha Ruth Prabhu paired with the stars. Prakash Raj dons a prominent role as a man who adores relationships and respects human values. As his sons, the heroes follow the footsteps of their father. Music by Mickey J Meyer is heart rendering. The film was short of some extended strips of comedy. However the melodrama and Anjali's love attempts to attract Venkatesh compensates. SVSC is a bedtime light meal with a delicious dessert that aid for a peaceful sleep. After the festive celebrations are over, it is now time for families that prefer peaceful viewing to occupy the theatres. Now this is a phase that shall bring out the real winner in the two, say filmi pundits. (Wishesh AarKay)
