City prepares for Bonalu, Ramzan July 05, 2013 17:40

After a gap of nearly 33 years, two very important festivals Bonalu and Ramzan are coinciding in the city. As celebrations ensue, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has assured of strict maintenance of law and order. Keeping the festival celebrations a priority, the CM has also sanctioned Rs2.5 crores for arrangements and to provide basic amenities across all mosques in the city. All government departments will now co-ordinate to facilitate all required arrangements for the coming month. Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi requested the government to complete all work before the holy month begins so that there is continual power supply during prayers. Hyderabad city police commissioner Anurag Sharma confirmed that neighboring buildings can be used for parking during prayers. Labour commissioner Ashok Kumar commented that night bazaars and road side vendors will have relaxed rules during the month. More eyes for Hyderabad July 03, 2013 12:31

The Hyderabad Police is increasing security throughout the city with the installation of 5,000 CCTV cameras. This initiative is part of their plans to reinforce security in the city. These advanced cameras will provide more eyes to the police in all major junctions and public places. Andhra Pradesh DGP V Dinesh Reddy informed reporters that the CCTV cameras will be installed under the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerate limits. The measures fall under the Safe City project  and is being initiated as part of the AP Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act-2013. The act was put into effect due to the repeated terror attacks in the city. Now all shops and buildings that attract large gatherings should have the facility to monitor their surroundings. In case of any doubt whether they will work, the DGP confirmed that police stations in Andhra Pradesh will have nearly 90 reception centers with easy access to people. Big plans are being made is step up security ranging from training of personnel to patrol cars for better surveillance. (AW:Sruthi)

1800 unclaimed Muslim bodies in Gandhi June 29, 2013 18:09

More than 1800 unclaimed dead bodies that belong to Muslim community are lying at Gandhi Hospital for as long as 10 years.  As the bodies are decomposing and are in need of religious rites to be completed the Urdu daily Siyasat came forward to do the job. If it is not done in a religious way, as the editor of Siyasat Amir Ali Khan is afraid of, the decomposed bodies will be buried in a single grave or cremated en masse that is not in accordance with the principles of Islam. The cost for burying, the editor says, is Rs.2500/- per body and they are doing the religious rites as the funds are received.  It includes the cost of transportation, cloth for covering the body and digging the grave. The editor of Siyasat said that the work was started in a small way with their own resources but later on went for the contributions (Millat fund).  The bodies at Gandhi and Osmania Hospitals were buried in the religious way at various burial grounds in the city.  The Siyasat received help from the philanthropists in many ways.  Some extended financial help and some donated land to bury the bodies.   (AW-SriJa)

Uppal YSR commits suicide June 29, 2013 15:20

Ramanthapur Corporator Yamajala Sridhara Reddy who was called  Uppal YSR, committed suicide by consuming poison in the early hours today.   He was rushed to Matrix hospital by his family members when he was found unconscious.  He died by the time he was taken to the hospital. Sridhara Reddy was the main accused in the murder case Jagadiswara Reddy.  But in spite it he held his leadership and good will in the locality.  Two weeks ago he was arrested for the murder attempt made by him on his brother Parameshwara Reddy who is a corporator of Ramanthapur. Police did not get any clue for the extreme step taken by Sridhara Reddy as no suicide note was found in the house.   (AW-SriJa)

Macca Masjid blast accused gets bail June 27, 2013 11:59

Tejaram, who has been charged with a crime in the Macca Masjid blast case, was granted bail by the Nampally Court on Wednesday. He was remanded judicially in December 2012. National Investigation Agency failed to produce a chargesheet even 180 days after the accused was hold in custody. Court granted bail only to Tejaram who is Accused No.9 in the case, remaining are under judicial remand. Accused No. 5 who is dead, Accused No. 7, is also an accused in the Ajmer dargah blast case and is now under remand there. Some of the accused in the Macca Masjid blast case are also involved in other similar cases like the Samjhauta Express, Ajmer and Malegaon blast cases.

CBI JD Arunachalm in Hyderabad June 15, 2013 10:59

Arunachalam, CBI JD of Tamilnadu has come to Hyderabad today.   As the previous JD VV Lakshminarayana was relieved from CBI after his tenure as per his appointment, Arunachalam, as it is in the news, is to take additional charge in Andhra Pradesh.  VV Lakshminarayana was appointed for five years in CBI in AP but his services were extended in CBI for two more years making it 7 years in total which is the maximum period for an officer on deputation can work.  His service in AP was extended with special permission from Delhi as the important cases Lakshminarayana was handling were not complete.  Although they are not still completed, as per the rule he was relieved from the CBI to go back to the State of Maharashtra his home state as per his cadre.   As Aurnachalam came to Hyderabad today he may take over the additional charge of AP CBI. As the Chalo Assembly time is over by 5.00 pm, the roads and flyovers are opened for the traffic which was closed since yesterday night as a precautionary measure by the police to obstruct the agitators from reaching Assembly. The MLAs arrested and transported to Golconda are released.   The TDP MLAs who were taken to Kanchanbagh police station had an altercation with TRS workers.  TDP MLAs complained that they supported the protest but TRS staged attacks on them. Boosting to IIT May 30, 2013 16:11

IIT Hyderabad is getting a total loan of Rs.1776 crores in phases.  15% of the amount will be advanced by the Government of India and the rest of the loan will be lent by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) repayable in 30 years. It is the biggest financial help IIT got from foreign agency so far.   In the first phase IIT Hyderabad is getting an amount of Rs.870 crores ($174.8 million) for its development.  With a financial support of that size IIT Hyderabad is having its infrastructural and long term developmental plans.  IIT H is going to have a special technology center, academic blocks and a research block in which lab equipment will be added that can also be used by private companies for their research carried in the campus.   As a long range plan IIT H wants to increase its strength of the students from the existing 1000 to 7500 by 2018.  Accordingly the strength of the faculty will be increased from the existing number of 100 to 750 by 2018.   With 400 Engineering Colleges in the city of Hyderabad where as 300 in the other places of the State, Hyderabad is having potential for the foreign agencies to extend financial aid to the city institutions and the gesture of JICA may be followed by other foreign agencies to give financial aid for the development.   As it is said by some professors of the Hyderabad University, Japan is eager to invest in the educational institutions and Hyderabad is found as a pool of talent.   Indications show that the higher education is going to get boosted up with foreign aids of this sort.   (AW-SriJa)

Parking fee collection protested May 23, 2013 13:39

Trolley owners at the Marketing yard in Secunderabad Bowenpalli area today protested the parking fee being collected from them at Rs.20/- per trolley.   Thousands of vehicle daily reach the marketing yard to transact and lift the material.  Marketing yard's collection of parking fee for the trolley that go to the yard became a burden on the owners of the trolleys.   In protest to the parking fee collection, trolley owners staged an agitation at the marketing yard by stopping their vehicles outside that caused havoc to the traffic in the area.  Police are trying to clear the traffic.   AW-SriJa

Always latest happenings get latest techniques to comply with latest rules.  Old railway constructions also made the public safety an important thing but more focusing was done on the service and the protection for railway property. As a latest addition to public transport system, the Metro Rail project of Hyderabad is going to adhere to all the rules pertaining to the National Building Code (NBC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).   In order to facilitate the evacuation with ease in case of fire, automatic smoke and heat sensors will be installed to give a signal to the public by hooter and public announcements to evacuate.  Platforms, stair cases and open stations of metro will be designed in such a way that the evacuation will be quick and without hindrances that create confusion and may lead to stampede.  The gates and enclosure which usually are for the fare collection will automatically be thrown open at the time of fire.     As well as the easy evacuation for the safety of the public, the fire extinguishing will be done with water storage and latest techniques.  Every metro station will have a water sump of one lakh liter capacity with pumping system. The above decisions were taken at the high level meeting the metro rail officials had with the Director General of Fire Services S.V.Ramana Murthy.  Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N.V.S.Reddy decided to have fire service teams dedicated to Metro Rail at Uppal and Miapur Depots.   That way, the HMR is not only going to contribute for the metro transport but also is going to look after the safety of the commuters as well. Old city lad tortured May 15, 2013 19:04

Syed Sameer (17) was picked up from his in laws house in Edi Bazar on Sunday night to take him to ACP's office at Santoshnagar.  He was beaten up there.  Afterwards he was shifted to Santoshnagar Police Station where again he was beaten up with rubber belts and lathis.   All this was to get the information from him about Rasheed who is an accused in a case of attempt for murder.  Sameer was repeatedly asked for the information to trace Rasheed and all the time Sameer said that he was not aware of the place where Rasheed must be.   When Sameer recollected and told police that Rasheed has a sister who lives at Shaheennagar, police took him to the place and on the way he was beaten up again at Chandrayanagutta police station.  Sameer was released on Monday on Rasheed’s surrendering in Bhavaninagar police station with an advice to go to a doctor.   Sameer's mother Noorjahan complains that her son was tortured and the house was ransacked and after all this police want them to keep their mouth shut otherwise they would face consequences.   Bhavaninagar police denies all these charges.  They say that no Sameer was detained or tortured.   But it is a fact that Sameer is wounded and not able to walk properly and getting treated at Princess Esra Hospital near Charminar. Youth commits suicide at EFLU! May 02, 2013 17:18

The esteemed English and Foreign Languages University (formerly CIEFL) seems to be hitting headlines for all wrong reasons-the student suicides. After a Muslim student who allegedly killed himself a couple of weeks ago, a similar incident took place on the campus on Thursday that had sent shock waves among the students and faculty of EFLU. Twenty-nine-year-old research scholar, Mohiuddin was found hanging at a mosque, which is located inside the campus. The police, who have rushed to the spot to take the stock of the situation, have booked a suicide case after they recovered a suicide note, which stated that the deceased took this decision in depression. Nevertheless, he even mentioned that no one was responsible for his extreme step. The body was sent for a postmortem. The police have said that Mohiuddin got enrolled into M.Phil programme and hailed from a remote area in Tamil Nadu. He completed his thesis and expected his result. (AW Phani)
