Ram Nath Kovind’s Swearing-In Today:- In a glittering ceremony, newly-elected President Mr. Ram Nath Kovind will be sworn-in as the 14th President of India. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.

At a ceremonial function in the Parliament House, Chief Justice JS Khehar will be swearing in the new President. Kovind is scheduled to visit Rajghat, before the ceremony. He will pay tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. After this, before leaving for the Central hall, Kovind and the outgoing President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee will have a one-on-one discussion on important files and policies.

Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will receive Kovind and Mukherjee at the Parliament. The President and President-elect, Speaker, Vice President and Chief Justice of India will share the stage. A 21-gun salute will be honored followed by the acceptance speech of President elect Kovind, after the oath of the new President.

Then, Kovind and Mukherjee will proceed towards Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the outgoing President will give Kovind a tour of the official residence after the event. The new president, following which, will proceed towards his new residence - 10, Rajaji Marg.

By defeating Opposition candidate Meira Kumar, Kovind, a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee won the presidential elections last Thursday.

Out of a total of 10,69,358, Kovind secured 7,02,044 votes, while his opponent and former Lok Sabha Speaker secured 3,67,314 votes after a final round of counting. Kovind has worked extensively in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. He is even a lawyer by profession.

In the year from 1998-2002, Kovind has been the Chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Scheduled Caste Morcha and the  President of the All-India Koli Samaj. He also served as the national spokesperson of the party. As an alternative to Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh, the saffron party had even tried to project him.

In 1971, Kovind got enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi. In 1978, he became the Advocate-on-Record of the Supreme Court and for about 16 years till 1993, he practiced in Delhi High Court and Supreme Court

On August 8, 2015, Kovind was appointed as the Bihar Governor. During the two terms of 1994-2000 and 2000-2006, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.

Kovind served as member of the board of management of the BR Ambedkar University, Lucknow. He also served as member of board of governors of Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata. Kovind also represented India in United Nations (New York) and in October, 2002, he addressed the UN General Assembly.
