Tribal Girl Dies at Gandhi Hospital After Battling Life for 62-Days

A 6-year-old tribal girl who was battling life for 62 days after she was given fungus-infected saline at Gandhi Hospital died on Tuesday.

Sai Pravallika hailed from Mondiyari Village of Jangaon district. She was taken to Hyderabad by her poor parents as she was suffering from pneumonia.

She was admitted to state-run Gandhi Medical College and Hospital with a high fever on December 7 last year. She was undergoing treatment from then. But suddenly her condition started deteriorating after December 14 when she was given fungus infected saline.

Sai Pravallika's father Bikshapati said that "negligence by the government-run hospital and its administration. He also alleged that hospital administration forced him to take out the dead body of his daughter immediately from the hospital after she was declared dead at 3.45am."

Post the incident, a severe protest took place along with media criticism. Telangana health ministry then ordered an interrogation into the incident, but till now the inquiry has not yet been completed. No report has been presented so far.

Meanwhile, the administration of Gandhi Hospital said that "the girl was suffering from a peculiar neurological disorder and that could be the reason of her health condition."

Clarifying over the infected-saline, hospital superintendent Dr J Venkateshwar Reddy said, "After the incident, the hospital authorities seized all the bottles of that particular batch and sent them for medical examination and none of the bottles found with any kind of contamination. We do not know how that particular bottle was contaminated."

Meanwhile, the family has taken the girl's body to their native town for cremation.
