The Telangana government has put all marketing and other departments on high alert. Met Department has given warning on heavy rains for next few days due to the impact of Cyclone Kyant.

Minister T Harish Rao told marketing officials to take all necessary prudent measures to save food grains which are brought to market yards by farmers. He also advised officials to ensure that foodgrains are stocked properly so that there is no loss from the rains.

The state had previously suffered a loss of over Rs 2,202 crore due to the recent heavy rains which also destroyed a large extent of standing crops. Meanwhile, the Met department said that "there is no indication that the cyclone is moving towards Telangana."

The deep depression located 320 km from Visakhapatnam and 460 km from Machilipatnam will have no major force on Telangana except for increased wind velocity.

As per Thursday’s report, wind velocity in Hyderabad was about 10 kmph during the morning hours and slightly more on the outskirts.

The local weather bureau explained, “Cyclonic storm Kyant over the west-central Bay of Bengal weakened into the deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal and moved further west-south-westwards and lay centered over west central Bay of Bengal. It is most likely to move west-south-westwards and weaken further into a depression during next 24 hours. The storm will have no effect on Telangana districts.”  

The prediction for the state till October 29 is that state will have dry weather. However, the prediction for the last two days of the month is that light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur in remote areas over Telangana.
