Newborn Baby Wrapped in Polythene Found in a Bin

In a shocking incident, a newborn boy was rescued from a garbage bin in a lane adjacent to Babukhan Mall, Somajiguda, on Monday.

According to the police, “locals noticed the baby in the morning and alerted the Panjagutta police. The boy was shifted to a local private hospital for treatment initially and later to state-run Niloufer hospital.”

Doctors at Niloufer said that “the boy was a premature baby and had been abandoned on Saturday morning.”

Dr. Seetha Ram, resident medical officer at the hospital said that “the baby has been shifted to the neonatal intensive care unit for observation.”

Locals said, “the baby was spotted in the dustbin when a few dogs lurking around started to bark.”

“We received a call around 12 noon from locals in the area who heard cries of a baby. Our team reached there and rescued the baby. We have booked a case under section 317 of the IPC (exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years) against unknown persons," said S Mohan Kumar, inspector Panjagutta.

Police said that “we are checking CCTV cameras in the surroundings and also the records of women who gave birth in the nearby hospitals. A case under Section 317 (abandonment of child) was registered by the police.”
