2 Dead & 6 Injured in a Road Accident in Medipally

In a tragic incident, a couple died on the spot and six others, including their two children, suffered injuries in a road accident at Medipally on Sunday night.

According to the police, the deceased were identified as Raji Reddy, 50, a businessman from Bharatpur Colony, and his wife Vijaya Lakshmi, 48. The mishap occurred at Medipally when the couple along with their two sons -- Srikanth Reddy, 20, and Ranjit Reddy, 16 -- were heading towards Warangal from Medipally in their Alto car.

"After a stop at a fuel station at Medipally, they took a U-turn to go towards Warangal when an Indica car coming from behind rammed into their vehicle at high speed. Raji Reddy and Vijaya Lakshmi, who were sitting in the back seat, died on the spot," Medipally sub-inspector K Kishan said.

He added "the children suffered injuries. Four persons traveling in the Indica, including Amrender Reddy, who was driving, his wife Jyothy and their two children also sustained injuries. Jyothy suffered fractures in both her legs. After the collision, the out-of-control Indica, traveling at about 130 kmph, went off the road and stopped 50 feet away at an elevated open space beside to the road."

"The LPG cylinder in the Alto car started leaking gas after the collision. However, the fuel filling station staff used foam extinguisher and prevented a blaze," the SI said. All the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital, while Amrender Reddy was booked under Sections 304-A and 337 of IPC. "We are collecting his blood sample to check blood alcohol content," the SI added.
