FIRs Booked Against Stalin & 60 Others

Two FIRs were registered by the Fort police station against opposition leader M.K. Stalin and 60 others.

The case was registered for unlawful assembly without permission in a restricted area. On August 18 the first FIR was registered when DMK MLAs staged a dharna in front of the Assembly. Second FIR was registered on August 19 after DMK MLAs and members conducted a mock assembly outside the state Secretariat to protest the mass suspension of MLAs from the Assembly.

The city police top brass on Saturday night transferred out Flower Bazaar Deputy Commissioner R. Sakthivel and gave additional charge to Washermenpet DC, S. Jayakumar.  The Fort police station comes under the Flower Bazaar DC's jurisdiction.

Police said that “DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin and DMK MLAs, including deputy leader Durai Murugan, have been booked for violation of a regulatory order inside the State Secretariat. The Leader of the opposition Stalin and 78 other party MLAs were suspended for a week by Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal on Wednesday. Next day they sat on dharna after Stalin was not allowed to go to his room in Fort St George and on Friday a mock Assembly was held by the suspended MLAs.”

“These cases were booked against them under bailable provisions of Indian Penal Code under Sections 143 (being a member of an unlawful assembly) and 188 (Disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant).”
