AP CM Takes Credit of P V Sindhu’s Victory

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made an attempt to take credit for badminton player P.V. Sindhu’s performance at Rio Olympics.

Speaking at an summit on Friday, Mr Naidu said “the sports infrastructure has been created by his government between 1995 and 2004 in Hyderabad.”

“I gave an institute of excellence to Gopichand and he is producing world class players. He has produced three Olympic medallists.” Mr Naidu said he was always ahead of times. “Nobody is getting awards internationally or at the Olympics, that is not the mistake of our nation. It is because we are unable to visualise the need and create infrastructure. At that time, I created the best sports infrastructure in Hyderabad,” he said and recalled the National Games that he oversaw.

"At that time, we created the best infrastructure in Hyderabad and I gave one such thing to (Pullela) Gopichand. I helped him develop it very well. Now he is able to produce Olympic players.

I am very proud of it," he said, while addressing a meeting here on Friday. Recalling his contribution to IT and sports in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister said: “I created the best sports infrastructure in Hyderabad.

We conducted National Games and Afro-Asian Games in an excellent way.”
