Curfew Continues in Kashmir for the 42nd Day

Kashmir Curfew has been extended to several places on Friday. The separatists gave a call for a march to Aripthan area of Budgam district to protest against the death of four civilians in clashes between CRPF and protesters there on August 16.

For the 42nd day normal life remained paralysed in the Valley due to the violence after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces on July 8.

"Curfew has been extended to many towns including Aripathan and Magam areas in Budgam district to maintain law and order," a police official said.

"Curfew also remained in force in entire Srinagar district, Anantnag town, Pampore town, Shopian town, Khanpora in Baramulla, Ganderbal town and Kaloosa in Bandipora district on Friday", the official added.

As many as 64 people including two police personnel were killed and several others injured in the clashes that began on July 9.

Restrictions on the movement of the people were in force in rest of the Valley. The separatist camp was headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik. They extended the agitation till August 25 and called for a march.

Schools, colleges and private offices remained closed while public transport remained off roads. The attendance in government offices was thin. Mobile internet and telephony services also remained suspended.
