State Maritime Technical University Signs MoU with AP

The State Maritime Technical University of St Petersburg were invited by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister asked them to venture in water transport and naval commotion. He held discussions with the heads of the university during his tour to Russia on Wednesday.

The delegates of the university have signed a MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government on an interchange of investment and naval technology between the two states.

The university works in close association with the United Shipbuilding Corporation and Rosoboronexport and would now impart its skill to Andhra Pradesh. 60% of university graduates are working in shipbuilding activity.

The university has facilities for ceaseless updating of skills of shipbuilding experts. It concentrates on advancement and investigation in ship building and all points of view relating to the sea.

United Shipbuilding Corporation president Rakhmanov Alexey told the Chief Minister and the representatives from the state that the university is prepared to have its home office in India in Andhra Pradesh.

Chandrababu Naidu respected the university’s choice to have its base in Andhra Pradesh. He clarified them about all the facilities accessible for the ship building and water transportation.

During the meeting University representatives Dikiy Alexev, Strugov Leonid and Appolonov Evgeny were present. Minister for Finance Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, senior officers Sai Prasad, State government advisor Parakala Prabhakar, Lakshmi Narayana, Krishna Kishore and Ajay Jain represented the AP government.

Around 5000 students live in Maritime University. Famous scholars from the United States of America, China, France, Finland, Sweden, Germany, South Korea, Singapore, Brazil and Netherlands also participates in the conferences conducted often.

“We are planning to promote inland water transportation, both passenger and cargo. The State has a good number of rivers and canals that could be used for water transportation,” he said.

The Chief Minister said, “the government was ready to establish maritime university without delay and wanted Rakhmanov Alexey to help the government.”

The University officials said “ the university has a course on Marine Economics and also Maritime law. Maritime law is taught with a view to familiarise maritime engineers with law and economics related to oceans.”
