Andhra Bank to have its Own Museum in Hyderabad

The Andhra Bank’s headquarters in Hyderabad will soon have an exclusive museum. The museum will consist of memories illustrating the journey of Indian banking system from the time it was born. Renowned freedom fighter Dr Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya found the bank in November 1923 in Machilipatnam with a paid up capital of Rs. 1 Lakh.

Branch Senior Manager B. Gopala Krishna said that “we have been engaged in the collection of literature and other memories of our bank and Dr Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya for the new museum to be set up in Hyderabad.”

Proudly displaying the memorabilia of the freedom fighter in the museum, Mr Gopala Krishna has added that “the new museum is meant for collection and preservation of the history of the bank that played a laudable role in the development of Andhra Pradesh since the period of colonial India.”

Krishna confirmed that the Machilipatnam-based museum would not be shifted to Hyderabad. It has a rare collection of lockers and other infrastructure used in the first branch including photographs.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Bank authorities did not comment on the demand by locals for shifting bank headquarters from Hyderabad to Machilipatnam.

Former Central Vigilance Commissioner K.V. Chowdary who hails from Krishna district said: “I appeal to the Andhra Bank authorities to shift the headquarters from Hyderabad to Machilipatnam.”
