Rahul Gandhi’s elevation as Congress President certain

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi being made the party chief soon. The BJP has termed this move would emerge as a clear example of dynasty politics. With Congress suffering heavy losses in the recently concluded Assembly Elections, Rahul Gandhi could be elevated as party president any time soon. There is no official confirmation from the grand old party on the reports, sources said that Rahul will be elevated after Congress Working Committee (CWC) meet.

Congress has decided to go for major structural changes keeping in view of the recent poll defeats in West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. There has been growing concern in the Congress on a series of assembly election losses suffered by the party was it was routed in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

“We are hearing news that Rahul Gandhi would be made the Congress president, it is their internal matter. But till yesterday Sonia Gandhi was referring to Prime Minister Modi as a ‘shahenshah’ and today we are hearing the news of her shehzada’s (prince) coronation. The entire nation now is watching what the ‘shahenshaiyat’ (dynastic politics) actually is,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.

“After remaining the Congress president for years, she is now passing the mantle to her son. Is it democratic or undemocratic? Isn’t this ‘shahenshaiyat’ (dynastic politics)?” he added.

Congress leader from Punjab and Amritsar MP Captain Amarinder Singh had said that time is apt for Congress president Sonia Gandhi to step down and hand over the reins of the party to Rahul and Priyanka Vadra.

Reacting to the reports, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shahnawaz Hussain has said Rahul's elevation would help BJP in achieving the mission of 'Congress-mukt Bharat'.
