Rahul Gandhi to be Congress chief this year!

Dismissing the reports that, Rahul Gandhi would be the Chief Ministerial candidate in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2017, the party officials said he would soon take over the responsibilities of the party chief.

Declaring the same, congress party leader Jairam Ramesh said at the AICC, “Rahul Gandhi is MP from Amethi and Vice President of Congress. We all expect him to be the President of the Congress in 2016.”

Jairam Ramesh declared the above statement, when the party’s poll strategist Prashant Kishor has suggested that, Rahul should be projected as the CM  candidate.

Reportedly, Kishor is in favour of either Priyanka Gandhi Vadra or Rahul taking the lead in the state election as the CM candidate. When Ramesh was asked about the possibility of Priyanka as the CM candidate, he said, “I have no knowledge”.

Kishor, reportedly opines that Congress in 2019, can come back to power by projecting Rahul and if people start believing that, he can lead them to victory in the election.

If at all Rahul is unwilling to contest, then Priyanka’s name would be considered in UP. If even she denies the request, then Kishor may suggest former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s name in UP, the report adds.

In 2014 Loksabha elections for Narendra Modi and in Bihar assembly elections last year for Nitish Kumar-led grand alliance, it was Kishor, who led the election campaigns successfully. Now the Congress drafted him to draw up a strategy for the campaign in the key state.

In UP Congress, few changes are speculated this month. For the last few years, Nirmal Khatri is continuing as PCC Chief and Pradip Mathur is CLP leader.

Since 1989, Congress is in political wilderness in UP, watching the emergence of BSP. Viral issues like Ram Mandir and Mandal made the party, a marginal force,  where it was in power, for almost all the time, since independence.

The party insiders and Rahul supporters are reportedly, seeking the current vice president to takeover as the party chief. Sonia Gandhi is continuing as the party chief, since 1998 March.
