Bengaluru woman abducted, CCTV captures

A CCTV footage showed a 22-year-old girl being kidnapped at her paying guest (PG) accommodation at Katriguppe in Bengaluru, while she was talking to her friend on mobile phone.

The kidnapper took the helpless girl to an under construction building near by and allegedly tried to rape her.

Few passers on the way remained mute spectators, even though the girl is crying out for the help. The girl approached the police, the next morning, who allegedly refuse to take any action.

But after the footage from the CCTV camera fixed at a house in the neighbourhood emerged, the police had to register the complaint yesterday.
The Manipur woman, who works in a beauty clinic, said that, she escaped from the attacker, biting his hands.

Just before few minutes of the incident, the woman’s friend was dropped off the woman outside the PG. She then received the call from the same friend. While she was speaking on the phone, the man grabbed her from behind and forcibly took to the under-construction building.

The woman alleged that, the PG owner, Manjunath had requested her to avoid filing complaint, but the woman denied his request and approached the police.

Speaking on the issue, N.S. Megharikh, City Police Commissioner said, “There was no lapse on our part. The jurisdictional police rushed to the spot based on the information provided by the locals, and they inspected the area. The police even asked the PG owner and the victim to file a complaint, but they both refused. However, the police obtained CCTV footage from the area anyway to identify the man.”

Manjula Manasa, chairperson, Karnataka State Commission for Women, said, “While the incident is alarming, there also appears to be gross negligence on the part of the police in not filing a case immediately. The police need to order a through investigation into this case and ensure that the officer who neglected this issue is penalized.”
