Thane shocker: Reason behind mass killings found

While there are several speculations made on reasons for Husnain Warerkar of Thane murdering his 14 family members, the police sources say that he lost Rs. 2 crores in share-trading in the past few months.

The police are investigating the case further, checking the bank accounts of Husnain and all other family members, to find clues, if any.

As of now, Kasarvadavali police recovered five mobile phones and a laptop from Husnain’s house.

Speaking about the issue, a police source said, “Since the past few months, Husnain’s parents and his wife were unhappy with him as he lost more than Rs two crores in share trading. Their house in Kasarvadavali was given by Husnain’s maternal uncle, who is a businessman and has a few plots in his name in Ghodbunder, Thane.”

A family member who stays near the Warerkar residence said on condition of anonymity: “We have seen them for so many years, but since the past few days Husnain’s mother Asagadi had changed her schedule to visit the market place. Also, the number of household things they used to buy daily had also reduced. I asked her twice while I was going to market if she wanted anything, but she turned down my offer. I found it strange and I went to her home to ask whether she was feeling fine or not. At that time she didn’t tell me anything but cried. The family was not very social. They did not share their problems with anybody.”

DCP Chandan Shive said, “We are checking all angles. We have sent the mobile phones to the lab. Soon we will get call data records so that we will get a clearer picture. We have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC and the complainant is Husnain’s sister Subia, who has survived.”

Even after surviving the deadly attack, Subia managed to take a bag of gold jewellery, the family had kept in the room where she had slept and gave it to her uncle, so that no one could rob them.

In Kasarvadavali, Thane, on Sunday, Hasnain Warerkar, 35, a chartered accountant allegedly killed 14 of his family members, by slitting their throats, including his wife, parents, sisters, and seven children, including his three-month-old daughter, before hanging himself.
