GHMC polls: 45% voting recorded, parties in dilemma!

After the formation of the separate state, GHMC elections were held for the first time yesterday. So it has secured huge significance, as it decides the worth of every party in the capital city of the state.

Out of the 75 lakh total voters, only 45 percent of the voting was registered in GHMC polls. These votes are going to decide the fate of 1300 candidates in 150 wards.

The polling started at 7am and ended at 5pm. The state election commission also webcast the polling activity, especially of the sensitive areas. More than 25000 police personnel were deployed to ensure peaceful elections. At all the polling stations, basic facilities like drinking water, toilets, ramps for physically challenged people were provided.

TRS has secured a hilarious victory in all the elections held, after 2014 general elections and it is confident of getting the similar victory, even in GHMC elections. In fact, Telangana Chief Minister KCR took it as a prestige to win in these elections, as most of the Hyderabadis are from Andhra and hoped that, TRS ruling over the months, would bring him good fate in GHMC elections. If that happens, KCR would be the supreme ruler in the future years too.

In the last GHMC elections, MIM shared power with Congress and ruled GHMC. But this time, they both are separately fighting the election. Even though TRS is politically strong in Telangana state, it is weak in Hyderabad.

In fact, in 2014 assembly elections, it failed to make any impact in the city. On the contrary, opposition parties, TDP-BJP combine had won 14 out of 24 assembly seats in Hyderabad, indicating their strong hold.

But this time, the case is different. Especially after HCU student, Rohith Vemula had committed suicide, with BJP in the centre of controversy, the issue is expected to show negative influence on TDP-BJP combine. As Rahul Gandhi has backed HCU student constantly, the Congress officials are expecting the positive vibrations for the party.

The counting of votes will be taken up on 5th of this month, the day which will decide who rules the richest civic body.
