On the occasion of Saddula Bathukamma, the Telangana government has declared holiday today.
After the formation of the Telangana state, the government is giving prominence to Telangana culture at every step. Declaring holiday for Bathukamma festival is another such important step of the government.
Bathukamma is considered as the most important festival in Telangana state. The women celebrate it with the huge collection of flowers. Previously, when the Telugu states are united, Bathukamma did not have this significance. But, after the formation of the separate state, this is the second time, Telangana state is celebrating the Bathukamma festival.
To make it wider, the government is conducting several cultural programmes on the tank bund road in the evening. Just like, Ganesh immersion, the government is trying to make Bathukamma famous at Tank bund and so making several arrangements and inviting the women from across the state to participate in the festival.
Telangana government spent Rs. 10 crores for various colorful lights, posters, banners and other arrangements on the tank bund road.
11 Bathukamma Action Teams (BAT) are deployed by the GHMC, with 95 supervisors and 1060 workers. It has even mobilized over 10000 women sanitation and health department members.
Even toilet arrangements are made for the women in many places, keeping in mind the huge woman gathering. Only on the lighting, the GHMC spent Rs 80.65 lakh and more than 100 hoardings are placed in several places, to greet the citizens on the occasion of the Bathukamma festival.
Along with Tank bund, the other important places, where Bathukamma would be celebrated are Durgam Cheruvu, Pragathinagar tank, Gangaram Cheruvu, Saroornagar tank, IDL tank, Palle Cheruvu, Pedda Cheruvu Hasmatpet tank and Sunnam Cheruvu.
All the Telangana government officials, along with Chief Minister KCR, governor, cabinet ministers and MLAs will attend the celebrations in the evening at the Tank bund.
There are traffic curbs in the several places in the city on account of the Bathukamma celebrations. So it would be better if the above mentioned places are avoided to travel for today.
