Caste conflict: SC issue notices to T govt.

The Supreme Court issued the notices against the Telangana government, for removing  the Kalinga community from BC caste.

Previously, when the Telugu states are united, Kalinga community is also a part of it. But after the states are bifurcated, a few of the castes are removed from BC caste, making them ineligible from the reservation quota of BC.

Regarding this, two of the Kalinga community students filed a case in the High Court saying that, they are losing the reservation benefits under BC caste. The single judge bench responded positively towards the students, but the double bench court raised a few of the objections.

With this, the frustrated girl students approached the Supreme Court and the latter asked a few of the direct questions.

Who gave the authority to T govt. to remove those castes? - SC

“When the Kalinga and other communities have the reservations under BC, before June 2nd 2014, on what basis, the government removed them from the reservation quota? AP students come forward expecting the reservations and how can you reject them?”, the Supreme Court judge H.L. Datthu questioned and said, the Telangana government can even announce the commission on the reservations.

Currently the Supreme Court stayed the petition of the girl students and said the next hearing would be on September 18th. “AP students can apply for the posts in Telangana, but as the government made a few of the castes ineligible under reservation quota, such castes would not get reservation benefits for the time being”, SC judge said.

A few of the officials said that, even after the bifurcation of the states, no government would have the right to remove or include a caste from the reservation quota. But the Telangana people argue that, there would be no reason for our decades of fight for the separate state, if the AP students are still included in the Telangana government BC reservation quota. In this situation, it would be interesting to see, how the government reacts on the issue.
