Maggi is safe: FSSAI-approved lab

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) declare that Maggi is safe, and is in compliance with the country's food safety standards.

Maggi was banned in June, in several states in the country like Uttar Pradesh, complaining that, Maggi noodles contained lead levels beyond permissible limits. FSSAI, an approved laboratory of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) had tested five samples of Maggi, sent by Goa Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

After proper testing, Goa FDA Director Salim A Veljee said, “CFTRI finding shows that samples are in compliance with the food safety standards as per the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011."

Even after declaring Maggi to be safe, FSSAI expressed apprehensions on state FDA's initial report and so the Maggi noodles samples are sent to Mysore-based CFTRI, for retesting the safety of instant noodles.

Nestle faced losses from Maggi for the first time after ban

In June, Nestle withdrew Maggi stock from several states and was burnt according to the orders. Due to this, Nestle faced 320 crores of loss in India, which is a first of its kind to face such a huge loss.

However, it is not only Maggi, there are several other eatables which are alleged unsafe and hazardous after Maggi issue went viral.

It is a universal fact that, alcohol consumption is injurious to health, but still the government has been promoting it with color advertisements for years. But Maggi is instantly banned on the spot, when it is found to be hazardous. How far it is a right judgment?
