Physically challenged girl tops Civil Services exam

The results of Civil Services Examination held in December 2014 are announced today. As per the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the first four positions are grabbed by the girls.

1. The first rank is grabbed by Ira Singhal of Delhi. She is a physically challenged and is currently working as an Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) officer.

Ira reaction after results were announced  

"I am really very happy. I can't believe this. I just prepared for the examination. I want to be an IAS officer. I want to do something for the benefit of physically-handicapped people."

2. Renu Raj from Kottayam, Kerala, is the second rank holder. She is a doctor by profession at a hospital in Kollam.

"I am extremely happy to know the result. I have been preparing for the exam for the last one year,"

3. Nidhi Gupta from Delhi is an Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) officer, and she bagged the third rank.

About 9 lakh candidates had applied for the exams. Among them, 1236 candidates have been successful in clearing the exam. The examination is conducted annually by the UPSC to select officers for IAS, IFS and IPS among others.
