The facility of stopping the train, by pulling the chain will no more be available, as the railways are incurring heavy losses, due to the indiscriminate chain pulling for unimportant reasons. 
   
One of the Railway officials stated that, a loss of Rs. 3000 crore has been incurred as the trains ran late, because of the chain pulling. 

Alternative arrangement

The process of removing the chains has already been started at Izzatnagar in Bareilly. The phone number of driver and assistant driver would be displayed in coaches, so that passengers can call in case of an emergency.

Rajendra Singh, public relations officer of the North Eastern Railways, Izzatnagar division, said, "The alarm chains will no longer be installed in new coaches being manufactured at rail coach factories across the country. The Railway Board has already issued a notification requiring that, the chains not be installed. Maintenance workshops have already started removing the alarm chains from existing coaches. At Izzatnagar railway workshop, technicians have already started removing the alarm chain from coaches coming in for maintenance."

“Along with this, one employee carrying a walkie-talkie would be present for every three coaches in each train,” he added.

The alarm chain is generally meant to be pulled in the case of emergency or if there is no contact with the travelling ticket examiner. But, people started pulling the chain for their personal reasons like, if any luggage is missed or any of their friends or relatives are yet to catch up the train.

Because of this, there is a huge revenue loss to the government, as the trains are getting delayed. In fact, this delay creates more inconvenience to the passengers, who are waiting at the railway stations for the trains and also to the passengers and also to the passengers who are on the train. So a decision like this, may invite applauses from the public too, as they might catch up the trains in time and reach the destinations accordingly.
