Omar says, Mufti government’s 100 days has 100 U-turns

While attacking the government of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led Peoples Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opposition leader and former chief minister Omar Abdullah termed the coalition's performance as "hundred days of disappointment and the hundred days of U-turns." "We are appealing to the government of India to come forward and announce as early as possible a package for Jammu and Kashmir," Omar said.

While releasing a document criticizing the Mufti led Jammu and Kashmir government, titles "100 days of U-turn government" in his first press conference, Omar said, as the premier opposition party of the state, he appeals to the Centre to address the "genuine concerns" of people, particularly on the question of flood relief.

"This (PDP-BJP) alliance was formed with the promise of providing assistance and aid to the sufferers of the horrific floods and for liberal funding. However, the state government is having more than `9,000 crore as pending bills and only amount available is the CM relief fund that is being disbursed," said Abdullah. “People were crying for money after last year’s devastating floods. Developmental works have come to a standstill. Infrastructure is in ruins and state is in doldrums,” he said.

"Please go and beg before the Government of India. If you want I can accompany you. I used to beg before New Delhi for funds rather than making people as beggars," said the former chief minister. "There are different statements being made by the BJP leaders. No measure has been taken on AFSPA as promised in the agenda of the alliance. To stay on that, PDP's surrender on AFSPA is complete and total would be an understatement," he said.

“The forming of the alliance in the state was in itself a U-turn. We thought it would be only a U-turn, but the government has symbolized the series of reversals on crucial issues. From giving credit to separatists and Pakistan for smooth conduct of elections and then withdrawing it in assembly, be it release of political prisoners and rehabilitation of flood victims, this government has only reversed what it promised to people,” he said.

"Whether it be the PDP that fought elections in Kashmir, saying that only they could stop the BJP, or the BJP that fought the election, saying that only they could stop the family rule in Jammu and Kashmir. Both these parties performed a miraculous U-turn and came together," Omar said.
