PM Narendra Modi: China's approach on some issues holding back bilateral ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that China should take a long-term and strategic view of India-China bilateral relations.

Addressing reporters after his meet with Chinese PM Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing, Prime Minister Modi said that he had asked China to reconsider its approach on some of the issues that hold bilateral ties back from realizing full potential.

"We are committed to set a new direction to ties between India and China," PM Modi said.

On the boundary question, "we agreed that we continue to explore a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution," the Prime Minister said.

"Our decision to open consulates in Chengdu and Chennai reflects growing mutual confidence and shared commitment to expand relations," Modi said.

The PM also said that President Xi and Premier Li were very responsive to the specific concerns he had raised on India's growing trade deficit with China.

"This has been a very productive and positive visit. I look forward to working with President Xi and Premier Li," Modi said.
