Rahul to lead Congress?

Rahul Gandhi who is the current vice president of Congress party, is likely to be appointed as full-fledged President at the AICC Sessions proposed in March or April. The 44 year old, Amethi MP became the deputy leader of Congress in 2013 at “Chintan Shivir” held at Jaipur and since then took the responsibility of the party. It is believed that Sonia Gandhi has decided to step aside and rest all the major powers on Rahul Gandhi. The tentative dates for the AICC Sessions are April 10 to 12, however an official confirmation is required.

The venue for AICC Sessions is yet to be decided as no leader is coming forward to host it. Earlier, in Congress ruled states, these sessions were held and chief ministers of respective states used to take care of accommodations for guests, delegates, senior leaders and media persons at lavish hotels. Since the Congress lost its role of government in all major states except in Karnataka, Bengaluru is most likely to host the AICC Sessions. However, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah is yet to come up with a proposal.

Sonia will guide the party

According to the sources, Sonia Gandhi has already intimated all top leaders of Congress about step down from the President post and is in favour of seeing Rahul Gandhi stepping in her shoes. She has been the longest serving Congress president as she took the leadership charge in March 1998.
