EC could scrap polls in West Bengal

The Election Commission of India [ECI] might call off elections in the West Bengal state as chief minister Mamata Banerjee has refused to transfer the police officials according to the EC's order. Mamata accused the Congress, BJP and CPI[M] for EC's action and said she would rather step down from the CM post.

The Bengal CM also lashed out ECI and described it as an agent of Congress party. “I don't care about anybody and there is no question of transferring any police official as long as I'm in charge of the state. It is a conspiracy of Congress and BJP,” added furious Mamata.

EC has sought the transfer of five Superintendents of Police, one district magistrate and two additional district magistrates and deadline for the transfer of these officials is till 2:30 pm today. So with no other option, EC is in thoughts in cancel or postpone elections in certain parts of West Bengal.

What decision will EC come up with, is something even the West Bengal government is looking at.
