First SC BJP Head From AP Passed Away

Bangaru Lakshman (74) who was the first President of BJP from dalit community passed away on Saturday at 5.15 while getting treatment for heart related ailments for the last one month in a private hospital in Secunderabad.  Doctors said that he died of multiple disorders.  

His body was kept in the BJP office for the people to pay tributes.  His last rites will be performed at Panjagutta burial ground at 4.00 pm which will be attended by the senior leader of BJP L K Advani.  BJP leaders in the state went to the hospital as the news of his death reached them.  BJP President Rajnath Singh, Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi expressed shock to hear the death of Bangaru Lakshman and conveyed condolences to his family members.  

Bangaru Lakshman was born on March 17, 1939 in a poor dalit family.  He joined RSS at the age of 12 in 1953.  He studied BA and also BL from Osmania University.  After working for Electricity and Railways he opted to leave the jobs and pursue his political career in 1969.  He held many positions in BJP.  He worked in the Trade Unions and fought for the rights of the workers.  In that process he went to jail on many occasions.  He also worked as National Head for BJP.  He was elected for the State Council during 1985-86.  He was elected for Rajya sabha from Gujarat in 1996.

But after working for the dalits, workers and BJP for a long time, he was caught in a sting operation conducted by Tehalka in the purchases of defense equipment.  He was arrested and later was convicted for the offense.  He came out on bail due to his ill health and he died taking medical treatment.  

TDP President Chandrababu Naidu, TRS President KCr, Tamil Nadu Governor Rosaiah, former Minister Manikya Vara Prasad were among the leaders who sent condolences to the family members of Bangaru.
