Soup in place of dates at Mosques for devotees on fast

Daylong fasting of the devotees in the month of Ramadan usually break their fast in the evening after the prayers are completed with dates and water as per the custom coming from Muslim countries. But Vijayawada has a local following of serving soup (Jawa)that is made of rice and vegetables in the mosques.

The serving that is taking place at Bhavanipuram, Jama Masjid and Sarai Masjid to over 1000 devotees daily without restricting it to the Muslims. As non Muslims also go for the prayers in Dargah, the serving of Jawa is given to one and all who ever accept it.

As per the seniors, the custom of serving jawa has been coming for so many years in Vijayawada as the jawa made with rice, onions, ginger, garlic tomato and coconut topped with mint and coriander gives strength to the body and also keeps heat out from the body.
