Analysis of Uninanimously Elected Sarpanchs

As the time is up for the withdrawal of nominations for the Panchayat elections, the details of the final list of candidates contesting in different Panchayats is released by the State Election Commissioner Ramakantha Reddy.

Although Panchayat’s elections should be contested without interference of the political parties, the candidates in all most all the Panchayats are backed by some party or other.  That is the reason why the political parties are taking the Panchayat elections as prestigious.

As per the details available now, Panchat elections are unanimous for the post of village Sarpanch at 2623 Panchayats out of the total of 21144 Panchayats in the State.

If the number is any indication for the final results, out of the 2623 Sarpanchs that are having no opponents, 764 belong to the ruling Congress Party, 570 to the Telugu Desam Party, 400 to YSR Congress Party, 88 to Telangana Rashtra Samiti, 8 to New Democracy party, 4 to Bharatiya Janata Party and 3 to CPI.

If we go further in to the break up, YSRC did not show much power in Telanga.   It gained in Chittore maximum of 75, then Kadapa with 57 and Prakasham 48 unanimous candidates.

Congress Party candidates were elected maximum in Srikakulam District with 87 that is closely followed by Vizainagaram 76 and Kurnool 70 candidates.

TDP gained maximum in Chittore with 102 candidates, next is only Srikakulam with 56 and Guntur with 53 candidates.

TRS Candidates that won unanimously are maximum in number in Warangal District and followed closely by Karimnagar with 21 candidates.  Congress candidates elected unanimously are more in Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Mahaboobnagar and Medak compared to TRS and TDP is also scored more than TRS in Mahaboobnagar.   YSRCP also scored more than TRS in Khammam, Mahaboobnagar and Nalgonda.

Political analysts say that the final results are not indicated by the number of unanimous candidates but it shows the trend in the State.  But the final results depend on many things like the change in the political scenario, tough fight and bifurcation of votes due to competition.
