More medical college seats in state

Andhra Pradesh state will now have more medical seats per college in addition to medical college exclusively for women. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved a women's medical college for the 2013-14 academic year in Hyderabad. Plus, several colleges are allowed to take in 50 more students.

Overall, the MCI increased seats by 1050, adding to the 5,500 available previously. AP now has a total of 6,550 seats after the announcement. Malla Reddy Medical College for Women, located near Jeedimetla in Hyderabad, will be part of the Eamcet medical counseling this year. MCI granted 150 MBBS seat to the college.

The college was approved finally after the management corrected the infrastructural deficiencies pointed out earlier. As this year, a majority of the applications for medical seats are women, the college is expected to benefit the students immensely. Out of the 1 lakh applications for the Eamcet medical seats, about 70,000 are women.

Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences also will have 150 extra medical seats henceforth, while Osmania Medical college has 50 extra.
