SC Displeased over acid attacks

Supreme Court questioned Central Government today why it is not taking the acid attacks seriously.  When acid attacks are reported every day and people are dying, SC asked why proper steps are not taken to curb it.

A program can be made by the Government, SC observes, to regularize the sale of acid instead making it available in the free market. The Government, if the problem is considered serious, could have put some tabs on the sale of acid in the market.

The Supreme Court of India also said if the Government fails in it, the Court will take initiative and pass orders to remove acid from the free market.

It is good that SC checks the Government time and again as the ruling party spends more time in retaining the power.  But, the orders of SC are also to be implemented only by the law enforcement department which is under Government control.

For example an order passed by the Supreme Court not to smoke in public areas is far from implementation in its strict sense except in theaters, buses and trains. Consumption of tobacco products of gutka etc is prohibited but failed in the implementation of it.  So it is only the Government that should take it serious and prevent those incidents.
