Some unidentified miscreants damaged the statue of Potti Sriramulu at Vinukonda last night in Guntur District.
The locals found the statue in the old market center of Vinukonda in the damaged condition in the morning and informed police about it. Head and shoulders of the statue of Potti Sriramulu were showing the sign of a deliberate attempt to damage the statue to hurt the feelings of some one.
Potti Sriramulu sacrificed his life for the formation of State of Andhra. If it were in Telangana region it could have taken a different turn of events. But since it happened in Guntur District, the damage was owned by the Arya Vaisya community of the town to allow their feelings hurt as Potti Sriramulu belonged to that community. They made protests at the statue against the unidentified persons.
